As already shown in the table above Oxygen has 4 non-bonding electrons (2 lone pairs) and 2 bonding electrons. The Oxygen atoms needs two more electrons to reach the stable sate configuration. Hence it forms two covalent bonds. Using the VSEPR theory for Molecular Geometry, CO2 has linear shape. Central atom carbon forms double bonds with each Oxygen atom [C=O]. Due to the sharing of electrons Carbon and Oxygen now have 8 electrons in the outermost shell. As the molecular Structure for the Carbon di-oxide CO2 molecule is linear, it has an angle of 1800. Since the Oxygen atom has 2 lone pairs, it pulls the shared bond pair of electrons towards itself due to which there is an electronegativity generated in the carbon oxygen bond formation. This is the reason carbon oxygen double bond is polar covalent. However as there are two oxygen atoms on both sides they form symmetry due to which the CO2 molecule is non-polar.

Introvert Whisperer / A Sure-Fire Way to Land a Job You Hate - Introvert Whisperer A Sure-Fire Way to Land a Job You Hate Recently, I have spoken to a couple of people about the importance of clarifying what they are pursuing in their job search.  In this economic environment, it’s important if not vital to focus on a specific position so it drives what content you focus on in your resume and LinkedIn profile.  Without doing that, you don’t stand a chance of being pulled out of the Applicant Tracking System, much less passing the all-important “first skim.” At the same time, many people who are out of work are using this job search time to pursue jobs that made up previous positions, but not the last job.  Usually the motivation is to avoid doing something they really don’t like to do.  That is understandable but (and here’s where the lack of clarity comes in for these people) they are still submitting their resume for those types of positions.  Which means they lack clarity for what they are pursuing and that won’t get you what you want.  It’s how you end up with a job you hate.  And it won’t be a pretty picture for how long and painful it will take to end up with a job you don’t really want. Granted, in this hiring environment you will be much more competitive if you are looking for the same type of job as the last one you did.      If the last job you did is the last thing in the world you want to do then you need to be clear on what job you are pursuing. Finding Something vs. Finding the Right Thing Many people think that casting the net of your job search to all of the jobs you might be qualified for will increase your odds of “finding something” regardless of whether or not you really want to do that work.  In today’s environment, that logic will backfire on you.  You first have to make a choice on exactly what position you are pursuing, then rework your resume and LinkedIn profile to reflect the skills needed to support that position.  After that your behavior needs to line up behind that decision.  You need to communicate clearly to your network what you’re looking for.  You must be submitting that reworked resume to those specific jobs. They were people who would smile and be friendly while figuring out how to undermine your efforts and make you look bad. The rest of humanity did their best to stay under the radar while the mud-slinging was taking place. With all of the nuclear fallout, it’s often difficult to not be impacted in some way. I discovered that, like many things in our society, we tend to notice the most outrageous, obnoxious examples of something and ignore the rest. Is It Possible That Office Politics Is Not Always Bad? In a word: YES! It’s important to understand that “politics,” no matter if it’s office politics, exists all the time whenever you assemble a group of people. I’m sure that’s a shocking revelation. Let’s look at what Politics is, why it’s important to understand and how you can play it well without turning into a person people avoid. I think you’ll change your opinion of it. In its simplest form, office politics is about building relationships in order to achieve some kind of end result. It’s how things get done and it’s done 100% of the time on all jobs. Our jobs are always dependent on our interactions with others. Also, when I say “jobs” or work, it doesn’t have to mean paid work, either. If you belong to a neighborhood association, parent-teacher organization or volunteer, all of those things have no income but there is still politics going on. Any time you get a group of people together, a dynamic soon forms. Generally, it starts with a person seeking to influence others to do something. That isn’t a bad thing most of the time. People need to sell others on their ideas most of the time in order to get them to give their resources. Those resources can include money, time and skills. In the workplace, we influence people to support and take action on everything from helping with a project to promotions. In other words, Office Politics is a constant. Once you start paying attention, most of the time Office Politics is taking place and when it is positive we either don’t notice it or call it something nice like “group harmony.” What Makes This Important to You? Office Politics happens all the time and it happens as a result of the relationships each person forms. Some people think that all they should have to do is show up, do their work and go home. They think they shouldn’t have to befriend people at work. Those people are the ones who are most damaged by office politics, because no one at work is there to support them and that is a huge problem. You can’t function like that. No one is autonomous, ever. You have to think of yourself like a cog in a watch, each cog interconnecting with others in harmony to make the watch tell time. If you aren’t “meshing” with others, you create problems for them and you. Sooner or later, you will feel like you’re working in a hostile work environment. It’s almost a primitive reaction that when a person doesn’t fit in a group, the group wants the outlier to either integrate or leave. It may seem like people are then playing dirty office politics with you as the brunt of what is transpiring. When I say you put your career at peril is because the situation I’m painting means that you not only won’t get vital support and information to perform your job well but people can openly want you gone. Clearly, none of that inspires a desire to promote you, no matter how skilled you are. It’s all connected, it won’t be fun and your career will crater. What Do You Do? Easy-peasy. You form good working relationships with people around you at work. This includes the boss and other people in management. Many people are too intimidated by management to feel like they can form a relationship with them. If this is you, you need to snap out of it. Management didn’t instantly show up as management. They are regular people like you who simply have a different job as you. They most likely had to put in the time and demonstrate some capability so they would get promoted. To be “awe-struck” by management does nothing for you, your career or the other person. The reason why forming good work relationships is easy is that you come in contact with a number of people routinely to get your work done. You may be so focused on your work that you ignore the few extra minutes it takes to connect at a personal level. If you’re like a lot of introverts, getting personal may have its challenges. The easiest way to start developing a relationship with a coworker is to show interest in them by asking questions. Start with the work they do and progress to interests they have outside of work. A vital part thing of getting to know the other person is to learn what is important to them professionally. (Like this thought? Tweet it!) Build Trust When you can understand where a person’s priorities are, you’re better able to support them. When you offer support to another person, it can be a gesture that will solidify your relationship and trust in you. Trust is a funny thing. For the most part, we trust each other but only up to a point. From there, our actions dictate if we endow the relationship with more or less trust. When our actions demonstrate that we have the other person’s interest in mind, the level of trust goes up. On that basis, the Office Politics is formed. We support and promote people we trust. People we trust are positioned to influence our decisions and actions. When we don’t penetrate the superficial nature of simply working at someone’s side, we don’t allow trust and understanding to form. You have to dig deeper and then show the other person you understand what’s important to them. Positive vs. Negative or Dirty Everything I’ve outlined is true no matter if the politics is positive or negative. What makes Office Politics negative is when actions and decisions are made at other’s expense. Positive Office Politics happens when it is done for the benefit of the business and in support of others. This means that even if some people are building trust and support of one another, the influence that is transpiring may be to advance one person’s objectives while destroying another person’s in the process. It doesn’t have to end up this way, but people who are jealous or competitive only see one possible outcome and that is to push back others as a means of advancing. I personally like to think that people who act like this will have karma visited upon them. Help them retain information bu making it fun, keeping a balance. You can make them play games using skills theyve learned. Give incentives for after theyve done a worksheet, do a fun activity where they have to do their own independent thinking and solve problems. Your children will thank you for a fun time when really theyve been learning too! Then when school starts again, the transition wont be so hard.

Difficulties with sustained attention, working memory (manipulating numbers in your head), organization and planning all interfere with math learning and performance. Starting from an early age, kids with ADHD struggle to memorize math facts and are prone to making errors on simple math problems (3-2=6). As they progress through school, they may struggle with word problems and more complex calculations by missing key details or having difficulty sequencing problem solving steps. As a result, its not uncommon for students with ADHD to be performing at least one year below grade level in math even when they dont have a specific learning disorder. This can be incredibly frustrating for parents and teachers, and the student themselves especially when they know that they are capable of doing better. The relatively recent introduction of Common Core math has added another layer of complexity for kids with ADHD. Unlike older models of math instruction, which focused on rote memorization of math facts and mastery of basic computational models, Common Core math emphasizes the teaching of problem solving strategies. Students are often required to solve a single math problem in multiple ways so they learn different strategies for obtaining the answer. They may also be required to explain their process and strategy in writing. While a solid argument can be made for the value of the Common Core problem solving approach over traditional memorization and computation, students with ADHD often find the process tedious, redundant, and lengthy three factors that severely tax their ability to stay on-task, focused, and motivated. Although math may not come easily to kids with ADHD, most can perform at grade level with modified instruction and additional support. Pushing kids with ADHD to reach their full potential in math is important! Studies show that students who complete higher levels of math in high school fair better in the job market and earn higher salaries. So, while it may be tempting to let your child slide in math and allow him or her to focus instead on subjects that come more easily, you will help your child in the long run if you provide the math support he or she needs now. Here are a few tips to help get your child on track and keep him or her going: Identify your childs math learning style. Is he or she a visual learner? Does he or she learn best by doing? Does he or she benefit from drawing or mapping out the process, or from having tangible items that can be manipulated? Do they need someone to verbally talk him or her through math logic and reasoning in a one-on-one or group setting? Then work with your childs teacher to put strategies into place that match your childs style. Have your child memorize basic math facts. Have your child overlearn these facts so he or she can recall them quickly and easily. This will help him or her work through math problems more quickly, more confidently, and with fewer errors. Its never too late to commit math facts to memory. So, if your child didnt master them in elementary school, help your child do it now. Kids with ADHD may find it easier to memorize math facts using an app, like Sushi Monster or Math Board. Help your child connect with math. Kids with ADHD find it easier to stay focused and motivated when they are interested in a subject. So, help make math interesting for your child! Math is essential to almost every aspect of our lives, including every sport, music, art, and technology-related interest that your child may have. Do search the web with your child to learn how math is important to the things he or she enjoys most. The University of Cambridge has some great online resources that really bring math to life. I especially love: Wild Maths, Plus Magazine, and the Math and Sport Millennium Mathematics Project. Get extra support. Some kids with ADHD simply need extra support at school or afterschool from a learning center or tutor. Request an assessment and extra support from your childs school if you think your child is not keeping up with his or her peers in math. If possible, find a learning center or tutor to provide extra support after school. Just make sure they have experience working with kids who have ADHD. With extra support, encouragement, and motivation kids with ADHD can succeed at math, and may even learn to love the subject along the way! ABOUT DR. Somewhere out there is your perfect LCE party waiting  eagerly  to set out on a language adventure by your side.How Do I Recognize My Ideal LCE Partner?Be discerning at the start. The better suited you two are for one another, the better your chances of having a successful LCE. Gut feeling is a good indicator. Is this person interesting to you? Do  they have a similar personality and lifestyle? Would you choose to chat with them normally?Then there is level. It is not necessary to have someone the same as you in ability and fluency. Even a total beginner and a near fluent speaker can help each other wonderfully as long as both are fulfilled and getting what they want.Next, find out what your potential buddy wants from this exchange. Can you help them? Do they seem interested in helping you?This last point is very important. Do they want to help you as well as improve their own level? Be sure you have a partner who you feel comfortable with, who seems supportive, patient and interested in your motivations and desires. People sometimes forget that speakers of a global  language like English also want and need to improve their second language skills. Make sure your buddy is a team player before you move forward!Okay, Got My Buddy! But How to Start?Be flexible at the beginning. The relationship will take its own shape. That said, it is good to set some starting rules:How often will we  meet? At least once a week is best to keep things progressing nicely, but the more you meet up the better your speaking skills will become. Do not try to overwhelm your buddy with to o many meet ups if they have a busy schedule, but be sure that you express your goals in terms of frequency.How will we  divide the languages? The most common format is to speak for half  the time in your language, half the time in theirs. But it is up to you and your partner. You could alternate weeks or come up with your own system. Bear in mind though that extended language immersion will deepen your skills, so try not to flit between languages too quickly and too often.If you are in an online LCE, you have the advantage of at least some written communication. That means you can post a short summary of the guidelines of your desired LCE to your buddy. Feel free to keep in touch via online messaging in between your meet ups.Where will  we meet?  If you have a physical meeting, then vary the location. This makes each session unique with its own set of challenges and learning opportunities. Go to a museum or a park. Meet at your house or at your buddys. Not only will you be more sti mulated by each meeting thanks to the varying scenery and topics of conversation, you will come across new vocabulary and challenges too.If you are meeting online, there is no reason not to explore cyberspace together! Play games, have fun. Sometimes you can Skype for talking practice.  Sometimes you can text chat so that your buddy can give you writing tips. Try different chat rooms and experiment with different conversation sites. Maybe you can even go on a SIMS adventure together!The Time Has Comeâ€"What Should We Talk About?Try to keep the topics of discussion diverse. At the start, you can focus on getting to know each other, but your LCE will be much more fun if you deliberately address different areas of conversation.This is especially relevant for online LCEs because we all spend a lot of time on the computer and are distracted by Facebook, background events, etc. Planning varied and fun themes ensures that your LCE is the only thing on your mind when you turn on your comput er. By avoiding distractions and staying focused on a topic, you will get the absolute most from the exchange.Role play and explore situations. This can work as well through Skype as in person. Your buddy can prep you for possible job interviews or interactions with trained staff. Role plays are a great way of both minimizing nerves (by pretending to be someone else) and becoming adept in situations you may need in real life. And they do not need much preparation. Just set a situation and think of a few points that may come up. Believe me, it is less effort than preparing nothing and then forcing conversation about the weather and your summer plans.If your language has a formalinformal function, as most languages do, you can choose to speak one week formally and discuss  more professional  topics such as your  career. Then the next week you can devote to casual speech and slang words.Get practical. Put yourself in real situations. Explore language through food! Go to dinner or to th e pub together, order food and pay the bill. Agree to take your native buddy around town without guidance so that you read the maps and you ask for directions when you get lost. Go to an art gallery and explain how each picture makes you feel. Take the train and describe the route to your buddy.Maybe you want this to be very low-key and laid back. That is fine as long as it is what you and your buddy both want. But remember that variability and challenging yourself will take you farther faster. You are going to meet loads of foreign speakers to chat and hang with once your language level starts accelerating. Why not use this novel opportunity to its maximum potential?This was fun. When shall we meet next?  Always end with a new time to meet. This is important for motivation and so that your LCE does not get swallowed up by the busyness of your lives. Having  research to do,  a role-play to plan or a topic to mull over means that your mind will stay on your LCE all week.How Do I Know My LCE Is Really Working?Want to be sure that you are getting the most out of your LCE experience? Want to rest easy knowing that you are making tons of great progress thanks to your new buddy?Make a goal for your LCE, whether it be to widen your vocabulary, increase your confidence or simply be able to order drinks by yourself (with or without laughter). This main goal gives you something to aim towards. Then you can set up small, achievable goals for each meeting, such as:Go out for dinner and talk to the waiter all nightHave a basic discussion about the political background of this countrySurvive a 30-minute conversation without giving in and reverting to EnglishThis does not need to be a structured thing with charts and progress boards. Just keep it in your own mind. Keep your focus on what you want to achieve and how that is going. This will keep your LCE alive and useful for you and make sure that you know you are progressing.It is also up to you to set the level of correctio n you want from your buddy. If your aim is confidence, then just relax and talk as much as possible. If you want to nail your grammar, then ask them to point out and explain mistakes. You can set yourself specific goals for each session, for example:Today I want to use conditionals correctlyI am  bored of using the same adjectives all the time. Today I will experiment with more advanced and unusual onesOnce your buddy knows your aim they can help you reach it and give you feedback and advice.How Do I Keep My LCE Fun?Treat it like any other important relationshipâ€"invest your time and energy in it. Commitment and regular communication are important to keep your LCE a part of your life. Be excited about it. Goal plan and reflect on how each meeting went and what you each got from it. What could you improve next time and how could you better help your partner? Once your LCE is something you are excited about, it will stay on the front page of your attention span.How to End My Language Conversation Exchange?For whatever reason, LCEs are sometimes quite short. Maybe you just needed that initial boost to get you going in your new language or to find a group of friends. Maybe you or your buddy is super busy now. Thats okay, it usually has to end sometimeâ€"and you can always keep in touch in the future if you like.But do make sure you end your LCE fittingly. It has been an adventure and a learning process for both of you. Go for a final dinner or drink together. If you are online make sure you schedule that final webchat or Skype meet.
